This course is an introduction to obedience and must be accomplished before moving on to more advanced training. The Novice Obedience course will take you and your dog on an 8 week journey of education. It is simple but not easy. The weekly sessions are intense 45-60 minute classes that focus on the overall obedience of your dog. Throughout this course, both you and your dog, will be challenged in all areas of training. The Novice Obedience course will allow you to establish yourself as the pack leader, and in doing so, you will  receive a dog that works for you out of loyalty and  respect, however, this will only happen if you want it to.

Areas that are covered:

Your dog will be trained to listen to you on the first command - every time you command him to sit, down, stand, stay, heel and come - no questions asked.

  • Sit at heel and remain until given the command to disengage
  • Heeling, focusing on the 3 main problems:

  •      1. Forging (pulling you)
         2. Sniffing
         3. Lagging behind

  • You will be taught how to train your dog to walk with you on a loose lead without sniffing, pulling you, lagging behind, and stopping at every tree and poll to sniff and pee on it. Your dog will be trained to look at and be focused on you while heeling. Many clients are able to heel their dog off lead by the end of this course.
  • Greeting people politely
  • Sit-stay for long periods of time with distraction, and owner out of site
  • Down
  • Down-stay out of site with intense distraction for long periods of time
  • Stand for exam - especially helpful when grooming and for vet visits
  • Come command - the world’s most important command
  • Out command - helpfull when your dog has something that you want released
  • Back up command - great to keep your dog away from the door when coming and going and when greeting visitors
  • Retrieval skills
  • Go to bed, or into crate, command
  • And many more....

Note: Since each course is designed specifically with our client’s needs, goals, and objectives in mind, we feel that you, as a client, should have the option of deciding what it is that you wish to learn, and how far you wish to go with it. Some people have minor behavior problems with their dog and wish to only get a basic level of obedience, while other clients have more behavior issues and they wish to achieve a higher level of obedience with their dog, or gain more specialized training. Because of this, the cost of the training varies and is very specific to each individual client.
